  1. How can I add a new idea?
You can add ideas by clicking the button labeled '+ Add' and then typing in the text box. There is a maximum character length to ensure ideas are concise (there is also a minimum character length). The character limits are shown above the text input box.
  2. How do I rank the ideas?
You rank the ideas by clicking the 'Rank' button. You are then presented with a choice between two ideas that are selected (sampled) by the system. You should vote for the idea that you feel merits the higher ranking. Your votes help generate the collaboration group’s ranking of the ideas. You are prevented from voting on ideas that you have added.
  3. How can I edit an idea?
You can edit an idea by clicking the 'Edit' button next to the idea that you wish to edit in the ideas list on the left of the main screen. The extent that an idea may be edited (in any one edit) is limited (see later). You can also edit ideas by clicking the 'Edit' button beside the ideas as they appear on the vote screens.
  4. How can I evolve an idea (by voting on pending edits)?
You evolve the ideas by clicking the 'Resolve' button. You are then presented with a choice between two versions of the same idea. You should vote for the version that you feel is better. Your vote will then help determine whether the proposed edit is accepted or rejected. Successful edits lead to ideas evolving (and improving) progressively; unsuccessful edits lead to the idea remaining unchanged.
  5. How can I improve my rating and ranking?
Your rating and ranking depend upon your contribution to the project, taking into account your voting and content submission activity. The quickest way to boost your rating is to vote frequently, casting all of the 'Resolve' votes available (when the number in the box beside 'Resolve' is zero you have no more Evolution votes available) and casting a steady amount of 'Rank' votes. The key to a very high rating is to submit ideas that are ranked highly by the group, and to submit edits (especially of highly ranked ideas) that are voted through by the group.
  6. What is the number in the box on the 'Rank' button?
This number displays the number of ranking votes available to you. The number varies depending on the number of ideas that are competing, and the number of votes that you have cast. If you visit the site and vote regularly you will have the opportunity to vote on all the competing ideas (except for those added by you).
  7. What is the number in the box on the 'Resolve' button?
This number displays the number of evolution votes available to you. The number varies depending upon the number of pending edits that are competing and whether you have already voted on any of them. If you cast all your evolution votes regularly you will maximize your influence on whether edits are accepted (leading to ideas evolving) or rejected. You are prevented from voting on edits submitted by you.
  8. Why is the extent of edits controlled?
Codigital’s evolutionary algorithm controls the extent to which an idea can be edited in a single generation. This ensures that participants are presented with a choice between two reasonably comparable versions when voting on whether to accept an edit. It also ensures that ideas evolve progressively. The edit limit is shown as a percentage on the edit screen.
  9. I want to change an idea by more than the edit limit allowed. What can I do?
You have two options. You can submit part of your intended changes, and then wait for these to be accepted (if they are successful) before submitting the rest of your suggested changes. Alternatively you can submit a new idea via the '+ Add' button, reflecting your preferred version.
  10. How does an idea evolve?
ideas evolve through the process of edits or improvements: participants suggest edits and then other participants vote to decide whether the edit is successful (i.e. accepted) or rejected. Successful edits lead to the ideas evolving; unsuccessful ones leave the idea unchanged.
  11. How often should I visit the site?
It is good to visit the site frequently so that you have a say in as many decisions as possible about which edits go through. The number in the box on the 'Resolve' button shows whether there are any new edit votes available for you. Voting frequently also ensures that the idea rankings always reflect your opinions. Finally, voting and contributing ideas and Edits frequently will improve your contribution ranking and the success of the project as a whole.
  12. What does my rating mean, and how is it calculated?
The System calculates each participant’s contribution to the project and expresses this on a 0 – 100 scale. If you’ve contributed 0.0 you have not contributed to the project (no votes or idea or edit submissions); if you’ve contributed 100 you are the highest contributor. The rating calculation takes into account a participant’s voting contribution and their content (idea and edit submission) contribution as follows: Voting: The number of votes you have cast as a proportion of the total votes cast for the project. Content: The amount of content (initial ideas and edits) you have successfully contributed, and the ranking of the ideas to which you have contributed. If you have contributed 20% of the first ranked idea, this gives a higher content rating than if you have contributed 20% of the tenth ranked idea. Your content submissions do not credit your rating until they are voted through.
  13. What does it mean when it says ‘New content being processed…’?
When you first submit content (a new idea or an edit to an idea) it does not automatically credit your rating. Your new idea or edit is made available for the other participants to vote on. Depending on the success of the vote ‘processing’, your rating will be credited or not as the case may be. During the vote ‘processing’ your rating is marked with an asterisk to indicate that it may be just about to receive a boost. You will be notified by email as to the success or failure of the vote processing (assuming you have not opted out of those notifications).
  14. How can I find out my rating?
Your contribution rating and ranking is shown in the header bar on the main page. You can see more detail on your rating on the Top Contributors page.
  15. Can I find out who the leading contributors are?
Yes, click on the Top Contributors tab in the right hand panel. This shows all the contributors (those who have cast at least one vote or who have submitted content successfully).
  16. Can I find out if there are currently any pending edits?
Yes. The current number of Pending Edits (or zero if there aren’t currently any) for each idea is displayed under the idea in the ideas list in the left hand panel.
  17. How can I check the status (votes for and against) of a pending edit?
Click on the idea in the ideas list and this will take you to the detail page for that idea. The detail page shows (i) Pending Edits: the current pending edits and the votes they have received, and (ii) Generations: the evolution history showing how an idea has evolved from one generation to the next.
  18. Do I have to submit very well developed ideas or edits?
No. You can submit any quality of idea though you can expect higher quality ideas to be ranked higher. The process of edits means that you, or any other participant, can improve the initial submission over the course of the project.
  19. Can I suggest edits to one of my own ideas?
    Yes.
  20. Can I opt-out of receiving the update emails?
Yes, via the Settings page accessed via the menu at the top right of the screen.
